funeral today. there were also funerals for olivia and for dylan and for mary and for rachel. we remember them all. dylan hockley moved to newtown from england just two years ago. he was 6 yearsoles old. a special needs child, his parents chose this community for the good reputation of the sandy hook elementary school. dylan flourished at sandy hook thanks in large part to his special education teacher anne marie murphy who works with him one-on-one. the houckleys kept a picture of ann marie rr on their fridge, and he would point to it every day. on friday, he died in her arms as she tried to shield him. his parents say they take great comfort in knowing he wasn't alone when he died. he loved to cuddle, play tag, and bounce on the trampoline. he idolized his older brother who was his best friend, his role model. his parents say they cherish the time they shared with him in newtown. our boys have flourished here and our family's happiness has been limitless. olivia engle was all set to play an angel in her church's nativity play last friday night. she, too, was 6 years old. church was impo
for psychologist mary sherlach and teacher's aide, rachel davino. also services for three children. also 7-year-old grace mcdonnell and olivia engel and dylan hockley. as the town mourns the loss of so many young lives, many residents are coping in their own way. that moment of silence, i thought, was very beautiful and very powerful and sometimes i wonder when people have been through a tragedy, is it helpful to folks who are mourning or is it just another moment that brings it all back? >> i mean, everyone celebrated that moment around the country, but we have been celebrating or having those moments of silence, celebrating is the wrong word. we've been through so many moments of silence in our churches, our synagogues. i've been to countless funerals this week of people who i knew well, people i grew up with. people, my children knew. and there is -- the moments of silence are -- they're deafening. i can't tell you how many we've had. at 9:30 today, there was a moment where we could all connect. all breathe deeply. and also realize it's only been a week. it's felt like a year, frankly. so fe
at sandy hook elementary school. six adults including 29-year-old rachel davino who dressed up in costume and broke out in song to help her students learn. and ann marie murphy whose parents say shield some of her students from the hail of bullets. full-time substitute teacher lauren russo dreamed as a little girl of becoming a teacher, even making a set of dolls her first classroom of students. mary was the school psychologist who for years helped children deal with life's terrible challenges. when the first shots were fired, she and school principal dawn hochsprung quickly headed toward the danger. the two women reportedly lunged at the gunman and died trying to overtake him. there was also 27-year-old teacher vickie lee soto who died trying to protect her students. >> their father, carlos, was up the other night identifying vickie's body and was just told kind of how she was found, protecting her kids, doing instinctively what she knew to do, protecting her children. >> the gunman's mother, nancy lanza, was the first victim last friday, shot by her own son in their own home. and the ki
, connecticut shooting one week ago. a private service is scheduled for mary sherlach. and rachel davino, there will be her funeral. there are also memorial services for grace mcdonnell, dylan and olivia engel. another shooting victim has been held for nancy han za. she was laid to -- lanza. she was laid to rest 120 miles from newtown, connecticut. approximately 25 family members attended the ceremony. >>> 7:36. in michigan, dozens of schools canceled classes today because of that threat that today would be doom's day based on the mayan calendar. there were rumors and threats of a student revolt if classes opened. administrators say they took those threats seriously, especially after what happened in connecticut last friday. they say rumors of trouble became a distraction and it was easier to close schools. students' safety caused collapses to be canceled in new milford, not far from newtown, connecticut. >>> this morning police and federal agents raided a connecticut gun store connected to the shooting at sandy hook elementary school. they raided the store after learning that store has
rousseau, rachel davino and anne murphy. >> joining me now from newtown is mayor mark boughton of danbury, connecticut. thank you for being here. i understand you personally knew the principal there at sandy hook, dawn hochsprung. the principal who is being described as someone who sprang into action and was very safety-conscious at her short tenure at sandy hook. what other insights can you give us, the type of educator that dawn was? >> well, dawn and i worked in the same system back in the late '90ers for the city of danbury. we were in different buildings but our paths did cross from time to time. just an incredibly brave woman who really had a glow about her. she had a vivaciousness about her. she always put children first. it was very clear in any of her interactions that i saw her or was involved with her that kids were first. for that reason alone, it doesn't surprise me that she took the steps that she took on friday. >> i think for people out there wanting to learn more about dawn and the person she was could look at her twitter feed to find out how proud she was of the school t

the fiscal cliff. joining me now, white house editor from politico, rachel smolkin. good to see you. >> good to see you. >> holiday red there, rachel. i will begin with you. is there any realistic timetable where a deal gets done beforian 1? look at the calendar. >> there's a realistic timetable but not an optimistic timetable. not a lot of holiday cheer going on in the nation's capital. after the stunning is heback speaker boehner suffered this week in the house where he could not get his own plan through. had to pull it and because he didn't have the votes. we saw president obama acknowledge yesterday before leaving for his vacation that the deal would -- would dramatically narrow. the parameters of a deal, scope of any possible deal, much smaller than we were looking at even a week ago. he said he would still be open to the big deal but the reality is we are running out of days hering and not a lot of progress is being made. quite the opposite. >> david, are republicans actually hoping to go over the fiscal cliff because then any vote on taxes technically would be to cut them and could go
